Newtown Creek Nature Walk

The Newtown Creek Nature Walk is a quarter–mile public walkway along Newtown Creek. The Nature Walk was designed by environmental sculpture artist George Trakas and built by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art program in conjunction with DEP's ongoing upgrade of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The walk affords visitors a unique view of its settling tanks and digesters, and is a good place to explore and learn about wastewater treatment, harbor water quality, and the history of New York City. The environmental sculptor George Trakas incorporated these themes into the design of the Nature Walk.
