Hecho En Dumbo
Owners Ethan Smith and Mexico City native Chef Danny Mena founded Hecho en Dumbo as a pop up operating several nights a week out of local café in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The restaurant debuted in its permanent Bowery location in 2010. Helmed by Executive Chef Luis Jimenez, himself a D.F. native with stints in some of Chicago and New York City’s most esteemed restaurants, the kitchen focuses on “refined rustic” Mexican comfort food and contemporary Mexico City cuisine utilizing sustainable, seasonal, and healthful ingredients. In a broader sense, the aim of Hecho en Dumbo is to celebrate aspects of Mexican culture seldom represented in the States. In lieu of antiquated and rural stereotypes, Hecho en Dumbo aspires to reflect the culture and nightlife of Mexico City today.
