Good Record Snyc

In 2005, Good Records owner Jonathan Sklute gave up his day job in finance to open his vinyl-only shop in this high-ceilinged, exposed-brick space. Shoppers will find a handful of requisite dollar bins but Sklute, who previously moonlighted as a hip-hop artist and DJ, specializes in pricier picks: rare, top-condition titles in a wide variety of genres. In the past, he's pulled in hard-to-find heavies like the Klute and Wild Style soundtracks, the dub classic King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown, and obscure Folkways field recordings. The eclectic gems draw serious record collectors from Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Europe, who generally learn about the shop through Internet-fueled word-of-mouth. Sklute himself occasionally peddles platters with three- or four-figure price tags on eBay and blogs about his latest acquisitions on the store’s Website. — Lexi Dwyer
